Amanda and I just got home from housesitting for some friends of ours. they live out in a suburb here called golden valley. it was a really nice change of pace, very quiet and peaceful. it is interesting to note the general feeling of safety and security outside of the city. having been an urban dweller for so long, it is just second nature to constantly be aware and on guard, not in a frightened way, just in a "hey-i-live-in-an-area-that-has-a-decent-amount-of-crime-happening-on-a-daily-basis" way. when amanda and i were out walking the dogs one night, it just hit me that my mind was on taking in all the scenery and enjoying the peacefulness of a quiet night, and nothing else. it is interesting that i dont even notice some walls that i put up, until i dont have to put them up. it was a nice mental break...
